MARK MCCAW Dear Lawrence Road Middle School Community, U I am thrilled and honored to introduce myself as your new principal. As a long-time resident, I have deep roots in this vibrant community. I am a proud graduate of Uniondale High School as well as an alum of California Avenue School and Turtle Hook Middle School. Over the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of serving this wonderful district as a social studies teacher, alternative high school principal, assistant principal, and principal of the "Mighty" Uniondale High School. Throughout my career, I have been committed to fostering a sense of pride and community among our students. I am honored to be known affectionately by my high school students as "Mr. U Strong;" it is a nickname I wear with great pride. I have always strived to motivate and energize our young people, instilling in them a sense of ownership in their community and a desire to succeed. My most significant accomplishment has been encouraging students to not only graduate high school, but to embrace their limitless potential and pursue higher education. As I begin this new journey as principal of Lawrence Road Middle School, I pledge to bring with me the same passion and dedication that I have demonstrated throughout my career. I am excited to work alongside the incredible staff, students, and families of Lawrence Road Middle School and help to create an environment where all young scholars feels valued and inspired to achieve their very best. This event was an opportunity for participants to reflect on the important history between this holiday. On June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas with news of freedom.
